Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in contact with the league office.

The team omitted the name of Rice specifically in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Posted on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.

Police Reports Currently Not on File

No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Recent Legal Issues

Rice missed the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

On the field, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
